Little Projects

First I wanted to show you the peonies in bloom.  Aren't they beautiful?  I just wish they were in a better place.  I think I am going to transplant them somewhere else.

I was in search of more rocks for my little garden project and therefore decided to rebuild the fire pit as I sorted through the stones in the back.   I made it into more of a circle and used only the larger rocks unless one needed to be leveled a bit more.  Then I wedged a smaller rock into place.

I created this small bed the other day.  It is positioned slightly under the apple tree, but connected to the tomato garden and the square garden.  I planted chamomile, feverfew, bachelors buttons, and calendula.

This is the one I built today with the rocks I found on the side of the house.  Caleb and I planted Merlot and Bronze Beauty lettuce, Red Torch sunflowers, and Zinnias in it.

Earlier today, Caleb and I used garden sticks and hemp twine to make a trellis for peas.  It isn't pretty, but it works.

I am working on ideas on how to use the larger, flat rocks for my pots to sit on.  I haven't decided yet what to do, but this was one attempt.  Personally, I am not too happy with it, so I will probably work on it again.

And now we rest for a day before it is back to work on Sunday.  We are supposed to have several warm days without rain which will be nice.

    1. Me too! My project was to add flowers. I had a small bed out front our house in Amissville that had some flowers. I miss it.

  2. A lot of work! I did t realize your area had so many rocks. I shouldn’t be surprised though. My neighbor in Illinois used to go to Arkansas to hunt for geodes.

    1. Yes! There are a lot of rocks. It is insane. Before we moved here, I was part of some groups on gardening in Arkansas. The Majority of people were saying you can't garden in the soil and that raised beds were a must. There are areas with a beautiful top layer, but got deeper than a few inches and you are in trouble.

  3. Why is blogger all of a sudden saying I am anonymous?

Problem is, Caleb has to do everything himself. 🙄 But I know he is learning.

  4. You’ve been busy!

I planted my peas, onions, spinach, and carrots today. (Holding off to plant cucumbers until Memorial Day.)

I was accepted into the Garden in a Box program. A master gardener help me garden this season. I will have grow bag garden from them. I believe with tomato and maybe 2 more plants in it.

If I can find some roots, I want to start asparagus. I like the idea of planting things that will come up every year. (Like the rhubarb we transplanted last week and the fruit trees and bushes.)

My peonies are only about 3 inches tall. We’re weeks behind you. We had snow flurries just 2 weeks ago! LOL

  5. I am glad you are able to grow something. It really is fun. I would imagine your growing season is short so you will have to find seed for plants with short growing cycles. I am praying my tomato and paper seed come up. Everything else has, so I am hopeful. ~Rachel
